I started from birth, but it's not 100%. Since he has no hair to clip a kippa onto and a clip would be dangerous at his age anyhow, we try to keep hats on him, we think he looks adorable (but we're probably biased! no?
We have a theory that introducing the idea of keeping his head covered so early might prevent having a three year old always trying to take off his kippa sitation. Also we feel it couldn't hurt his yiras shamayim.
We don't cut hair until 3 years, but we will start tzitsis as soon as he's potty trained.

wow Im shocked, there are really little 1 and 2 year olds walkig around with yarmulkes? I always knew it was something you do n the 3rd birthday; a kappel and payos go together... btw Ive seen facebook pics of ppl with kids over age 3, had a haircut, and no kippah cuz they wont keep it on. I guess it varies with everyone. In my circles, the 1st haircut, kappel and tzitzis are on the 3rd birhday. _________________ http://www.autism-parenting.com

Mamabear, we're the only one (that I know of) who are doing this in our circles as well, my dh's family thought we're a little off for it, but they did admit that our baby looks adorable in hats.

haircut 3 yarmulka 3 tzitzis 3, this is the offical thing we do, but not the official thing ds who has just turned 4, does, we have gone through so many yarmulkas because he keeps loosing them, today we went to the playground and at some point I notice he isnt wearing a kappel and I ask him where it is (he doesnt know) so we search and dont find it and he ended up (as usual) without one until we came home. Even at home they fall of him in odd places so I am hunting around the house searching for that one when we have quite a few.
Tzitzis he is also not very good with, he says they scratch him, we put a tshirt under, we have tried different sizes, and also pure cotton, he takes them of at some point during the day, generally before he needs the toilet because he doesnt want to go when he wears tzitztis. _________________ "Smell my foot, it smells like opportunity" By ds aged 5.

DS has been occasionally trying to wear daddy's yarmulka for a couple of months now (they just turned two last week). So we've already gotten him his own and put it on him on request. The problem is that his ponytail is still somewhat on top of his head so it interferes, so he finds it uncomfortable and yanks it off. We're not pressuring him to wear it for now, just praising him when he does about being a big boy in hopes of it not being too tough of a transition at 3.
The funny thing is DD LOVES wearing a yarmulka. So anytime DS starts putting one on, she wants one too. We're trying to explain to her that it's a boy thing, but it doesn't seem to be gaining any traction with her.

I have a nephew who wears a kippah despite the fact that not only is he under 3, he's not even JEWISH... Not about to argue with said siblings about how ridiculous this is, but he sure does look cute...
