Teachers requiring signatures on homework each day

ok. so say you have food ready. then you all sit down to eat for an hour. (so you are not rushed- I totally understand)
that brings you to 6.
you have from 6-6:15 to listen to you 6 yr old do homework, and get the 8 9 yr old to start as well. will your 1,3 and 5 yr olds play on their own while you do this? while you listen to the 6 yr old, clean up dinner.
(I hope a 6 yr old does not have more than 15 min of homework...)

then bathe your kids and get them in bed, have the 9 yr old read a story to them while you work with the 8 yr old. 9 yr old a boy or girl? actually it doesn't matter, they should be able to read to them say shema and close the light. alternate with the 8 yr old.
while they are being taken care of, you do homework with the 8 yr old. by the time 9 yr old comes down, the 8 yr old should be done. (my 8 yr old has 1/2 hour of homework about)
then work with 9 yr old while 8 gets ready for bed.

9 yr olds should have 45 min-1 hour of homework. she should be able to work on her own while you do something else. like fold laundry while listening and offering help as needed.
and honestly- at 8 I give you permission to collapse. its the end of a long day and it is tiring. I'll usually chill or chat on the phone while doing house stuff, but realistically I get most stuff done during the day.

you need to get your kids to help each other and also you. your kids should be able to do homework without you sitting next to them, you should be a guide, a help line, answering questions like "what does integrity mean?"
but you should not be saying read teh sentence what does it ssay, ok which wrod belongs in this line this one- no this? no- oh maybe this one fits.
if you are doing this then you need to speak to the teacher becaseu the child should be able to do that scenario on their own.

again without knowing the exact dynamics of your house, its hard to give exact advice. truthfully alot of my time is spent saying- get off the trampoline- or get off the computer- go do your homework! rather than actually have them doing it!
I know you cannot do this but if kids do their homeork as soon as they come home they are still in school mode and do it faster than wiating till the evening where you ahve to pull them away from whatever activity they are doing.

sounds ideal - problem is my big ones are not great readers having had a really late start bec. we lived in Israel till middle of last year. that also means that as boys they've never had homework before either and are really having a hard time adjusting. But tonight I let my 9 yr. old stop after 45 min. - he had only done half his homework and wrote the teacher a note. I hope that's O.K. Onward.... I still hate homework though and think most of it is pretty stupid!

What I love is my preschooler, whose gannenet wants me to sign that I read his communications book. Listen, you asked me to send something for a craft, I sent it...that implies that I read the note! I don't feel like I need to search for a pen to sign the notebook!

The signatures are a crutch. Teachers trying to educate parents. I 100% agree with Fox that it shows the incompetence of the teachers. There must certainly be opportunities in the classroom that allows a child to demonstrate his mastery or need for help. And if the teacher gave the homework they should be checking it, no? The most degrading thing was to do my homework and then the teacher say "I am not collecting this assignment, it is for your knowledge". Lazy*^&*&^%*.

Yes, I had to have bad tests signed. Also, my report card. V'zehu. And to have ALL parents sign to covewr your butt in case someone accuses. I better not comment...
