OK, this is probably more relevant for chutzlikim as most of us take 2-day weekend for granted.
Pls feel to chime in!
What I like about YT falling on weekends:
- no need to take precious paid holiday
- no missed/disrupted school/work schedule
- reduced cooking--cook for 2 days, as opposed to 2 YT AND shabbat within one week
- gotta love that "so how was your weekend?" watercooler chitchat (if you work in non-jewish office)
"yeah, I had ok weekend. Fed fish head and brisket to 15 people, listened to a guy blowing a ram's horn. Nothing special, really"
What I don't like about YT falling on weekends:
- no time to do laundry
- I only have the nanny Mon-Fri
- comes back to the office exhausted (on top of fasting)

We do this every single week - clean up Shabbos, get the kids to bed late (in summer), throw in a load or two and hope they'll dry by the morning, and get up at 7 or so to start the week. _________________ "The problem begins with... their political hangers oners... such as Anat Hoffman. | In Israel it's GREAT because of (1) less cooking and (2) more chol hamoed sukkot. YT ended early enough last night that I was able to drive home from my parents after YT, get everything put away, do a load of laundry and hang it AND be out of the house this am at 7:30. Weekend YT is only a positive thing here.

Mrs Bissli you made me laugh!! I just said, oh it was the Jewish new year so we did lots of eating. I didnt go into fish head and ram's horn details.
Last night I felt horrible that in my head it was motzei shabbos (although obviously it was not) and I had to go back to work this morning. Then I reminded myself that if I ever move to Israel, that will be my life so I shouldn't complain. Luckily I worked from home one day last week so managed to get the ironing done but I'm not looking forward to two weekends in a row like this in a couple of weeks. It's nice in a way but also no sleep on either day was not great. I am exhausted now. _________________

Yes, I like that I don't have to use up my PTO for YT, and that it's one less day of seudos.
I also go back to work totally exhausted, no grocery shopping done, etc. I debated calling off today bc I lechatchila am exhausted and the added fasting makes me fear I'll be a zombie at my desk all day, then go pick up kids from babysitter and be in a bad mood. _________________

Not for me - I work full time, and tey force us totake Chol Hamoed off work (which is fine) but deduct a full days vacation for each day Chol Hamoed.
These chagim cost me 5.5 days of my precious yearly vacaton (5 days sukkot and a half day erev YK) _________________ Hila

Ouch. B"H my company "charges" us only 1/2 day for each day chol hamoed.
For me the worst part is the kids don't have school/daycare erev YT, when they normally DO on Friday morning. My DCs were up before 5 on Friday and one of them didn't sleep...I was exhausted before chag even started. _________________ Emmanuel Tzvi: 26 Shevat 5766

just out of curiosity, what's the average paid vacation days like for an israeli company?
here, the standar is 5 weeks (ie 25 days), my employer lets me carryover the unused bit, also I get an extra day or so every 5 yrs. sick days are separate from this.

| By law it's 2 weeks (10 working days) for a full-time position. My company is more generous than that (I get 17 days...it depends on position & seniority), but also does not allow us to carry over unused days. (You can apply for a special case permission though, like when I had my baby 10 days early they let me tack my unused days onto the end of my maternity leave.)

| I don't know anyone who gets 25 days. I imagine they are out there, but I haven't heard of it. 22 yes but not 25. You need also to take into account that all yamim tovim are "free" (bummer when it's on Shabbat LOL), 1/2 day erev YT and various permutations regarding chol hamo'ed, so in reality you get a lot more than, say "just" 18 or 22 days because none are "wasted" on chagim.

I get 20 days - but that has to cover all chol hamoed (when my workplace is closed) , 2 days Purim(I work in Jerusaelm and live outside and my workplace is closed Shushan Purim), Tisha Beav, Erev chag (when they are also closed) , snow days, and any vacation left over.
Many have far less (some haev 12 days only) and this does not cover the forced vacation days... great emplyer (not) !

bissli, u pretty much covered it. But there's one that depends.
Where DH works, he gets paid for actual days of YT (but for example not chol hamoed, even though they are closed) but only if the day of YT is a working day.
So this year, he doesn't get paid for the whole week of sukkos. Where in past years he's gotten a bit of a paycheck.

Sure is nice not having to take off all those vacation days, though now that my kids are older I don't have to take off or make childcare arrangements just b/c they have no school. B"H! OTOH, Sunday is my big day for grocery shopping, laundry, and prepping for the following Shabbat, and this week I have to squeeze in not only prep for next Shabbat and erev YK and the break-fast, but also some prep for Sukkot as well.
having sukkot on the weekend is lovely b/c we have a real chol hamoed in which we can maybe hope to do something fun as a family, as opposed to all of chol hamoed being tied up as Shabbat or Erev Shabbat or Erev YT. Plus, no three-day sieges! YT is lovely, but too much of a good thing is too much!

I miss my Sundays the most... My house is now a total mess and I know that I will not want to start cleaning when I get home since I have to do laundry, give the baby a bath, make dinner, prepare lunches for the week, maybe even take a small grocery shopping trip. I wish there was more time in the day for all of this! _________________ all advice is appreciated

Yom tov is pretty much a working day for us, since dh is a rabbi and we have a lot of guests, sermons to prepare, no chance of ever getting invited out or even having a guestless meal, so a month with no days off is going to be pretty tough. (more for dh then for me) It's hard on my kids as well...although at least we can all go out to the park when it is not shabbos, if dh can spare an hour. maybe we will take them out of school on chol hamoed and do something fun.
The upside is less cooking.

| Usually pronounced "chutznikim" and it is not derogatory at all. Just means someone who lives in Chutz Laaretz
