| I have frozen breastmilk in the freezer that I haven't used for a while. 2 of the bags are dated in january making them almost 7 months old. I want to use them today so that I can fast. Can I use those bags from january, or only the ones dated a later date?

| Actually some websites say you can use up to 6 months. My question is, does it actually go bad after six months and by 6 1/2 or 7 months it is spoiled, or is it fine to use but may have lost some nutrition due to breakdown of whatever components?

| Come on! Will someone please answer me? I need to feed her within the next 15 minutes-half hour. Can I use milk that's in the freezer almost 7 months?

in a regular freezer it is good for 6 months but a deep freeze good for a yr because it stays colder.. so it also depends on the freezer and how cold it is and where in the freezer is it stored.. the door or way at the back - it is probably ok to use _________________ ************************

It doesn't spoil, I've used that old (and older!)...it loses some of the good stuff, but if it spoiled, you'd be able to smell it. Most freezers it's really fine till a year. Or longer!
They make definite guidelines regarding safety, just in case. That doesn't mean going past that means it's gone bad. _________________ http://a-natural-birth.com

Thanks for the reassurance. I actually used one older bottle and one newer bottler and nothing happened to my daughter. I still have one older bottle amongst the others and plan to use it shortly.
Now I have to deal with milk supply issues, though I hardly nursed yesterday, so that I should be able to fast, and supplemented instead. Now I think my milk supply went down! Any ideas what I can do?

Rosemarie,
Three words -- nurse, nurse, nurse! I know it is Erev Shabbos, but spend as much time as possible holding and feeding your child, even if you feel empty!!!! Over Shabbos, stay at home as much as possible and lay in bed with your child and nurse. Oh, and re-hydrate (no soda, coffee, caffeine drinks -- lots of water) Within 72 hours, you will get your supply back, iy"H.
Hatzlacha and good Shabbos,
Yael
