Shalach Manos

My son wants all kinds of fancy things in his shalach manos bags that he will be giving out to friends. I need to limit it because we are on a budget and I have other children. How do you think I can come to compromise with him?

Give him a certain amount of money for the Shalach Manos, and tell him he can decide what goes in his. Let him go shopping.

why not tell him, you can make a few "expensive ones" for his close friends and then he can make a bunch of "regular" ones for everyone else

or you can have pick two things in his bag that are "expensive" and the rest of the items will be whatever the other children are giving.
