We have bedbugs for close to a year now. It is the worst and it's not only the physical part of getting bitten and itching although thats pretty bad too.
We had an exterminator come a few times and they would go away for a little and then pop up again. We moved to my kids room because I was getting bitten so bad and I am highly sensitive to them. I wouldnt go out in public because I was full of red blotches like chicken pox. We've been sleeping on small really uncomfortable high riser beds for the past 2-3 months, havent had relations in forever because of that and on top of that I'm pregnant so everything together is just crazy.
My daughter's therapist found out we had, I must have mentioned it to one that also had in the past and now I have to make this embarrasing phone call to each therapist (5 total) and explain the situation and they might decide to work with my kids outside which in my opinion is a lot worse with the garbage and dirt everywhere.
Our only option was to move so now we are spending over $15,000 to move into a new place and buy new furniture, because we can not risk taking any bugs or eggs with us.
If anyone has bedbugs and has any questions or anything, I pretty much know everything there is to know about those suckers already, you can reply on this post.

PS. For a small infestation or in between exterminator treatments bleach or alcohol is said to kill them. I used to walk into my bedroom with a bottle of Clorox Clean Up spray, which is mostly bleach, and spray all the bugs I saw, yes they would be crawling around in middle of the day, that's how bad it is/was.

My dh manages apartments and they get it all the time (people bring it in and spreads between apartments)

If you are renting find out how much of an obligation your landlord has to you, and how he can help you get rid of them.
Find out if your attached neighbors have them, otherwise they will keep on coming back.

My dh's exterminator has a new treatment which is very expensive that does not require all the washing (I think) and is more guaranteed to get rid of them. He is still in training for it but keeps telling my dh it will make life with bed bugs much easier. I think it heats the area to very high temperatures and kills them. You may want to call around and see if anyone has this.

Some things he does in the apartments immediately:
1. Cover all mattresses and pillows in special covers (he provides these to tenants)
2. throw out the couch and any furniture that cannot be sealed (this is not covered by the landlord but must be done or the tenant can be evicted). He slashes the cusions to make sure no one else will take them. His exterminator claims it is impossible to get it out of there fully.
3. All clothing, linen, blankets, etc must be washed in the hottest water.
4. Anything that cannot be washed must be tossed including shoes
5. The apartment is treated by an exterminator and all touching apartments are treated. Upstairs, downstairs, and to the sides. If the neighbors have it then it will come back.
If his tenants don't comply he has them evicted otherwise the entire building would be infested.

to the amother above, don't be embarrassed. Many people have bedbugs. The exterminator is constintly telling dh that many of the homes he is treating the bugs were brought back from 4 and 5 star hotels. It doesn't mean you are dirty or anything like that.

Godd luck

I am second to last amother.
My landlord I think paid partially for the treatment but it's coming close to a few thousand dollars now, so not really sure if he will pay for the final extermination before we move. BH our neighbors didnt get them because our bedroom is in the back of the apartment and to the left and right of us are different buildings with fireproof walls.

I am so sorry - it is a big job to get rid of them.

My friend's sister had them, so I will just add that once you believe they are gone, there are bug sniffing beagles that can come in and search for any that my be left so there is not a re-infestation.
Good luck!
