a landline home phone can pull you up to $62 I'm paying just under $100 for the phone, and long distance calling card each month. I'd rather pay $100 for unlimited cellular minutes and the end with the home phone. Your thoughts ?

We are married for almost a year and a half and we still don't have a land line. We both have unliimited cell plans that are very good and my dh anyway needs it for his work. So far we have not seen the need for a phone line.

I don't want to spoil your plans but are cell phones that clear? I find that its so much clearer and easier to hear and talk on the land line, no? but hey whatever works for you!

As long as your cell phone works well in your house, more and more people are going that route.
they even sell cordless phones which integrate via the bluetooth to use ur cell phone if you want to have more a phone phone to use

we did that for a while after we got married. eventually we got a landline because I was working from home and needed to make many phone calls a day.

we also did it for a while after we got married, and it worked ok. but then I needed to send a fax and it was such a pain (couldnt be emailed or mailed)...had to run over to my parents before the deadline....so we caved. We pay verizon for a phone line, but leave the fax machine on at all times (minimizes junk calls and soliciters...if they call they get a fax line and are discouraged from calling back). We pretty much use it as a fax line, but its nice to have in case of "emergency" (cell phone is dead or something!!!) I dont think land lines are necessary. unless you live in a spot where your cell carrier gets poor coverage, and then you are just un-lucky.

unless you have a spare line, how can you leave a babysitter in the house with no phone?? I wouldnt not have a house phone, I pay maybe 20$ a month for unlimited calling to the US and canada. I wouldnt be comfortable without a land line, lets say you leave the phone in the car, or loose it when your out? What if god forbid your kid needs to all 911 and cant find the cell phone??

I keep thinking about stopping home phone but it's too risky. I talk a lot on the phone at night so I can use a regular not hot phone to talk on and what happens if my cell breaks one day? I need a backup.

DSL is not on the phone. They use wires from the cable that the phone company uses, but it's not dial-up.

Voice over internet is much cheaper than a regular landline. And you use your home phone.

We also thought of it, and gave up the idea right away.
First of all, our cellphones don't work well on our block (although they work in a downstairs wedding hall without a problem!)
Second, the babysitter would be left with no phone.
Kids are still too young, but same story with kids.
Third, the radiation is not a smart idea.
