I've used Almond D in the past with my older son, but don't really like it. Do you know of something else that I can take to thicken my milk? I've heard of Mega Milk - anyone use it or heard of it? Maybe certain foods I can eat to help? My baby hasn't really gained back his birth weight and the dr said that I should nurse and then give hime up to 3 oz of formula, but I really want to avoid formula, so I'm looking for alternatives. Any suggestion?

One person told me water-didn't see that working
someone else told me dairy
the dr. told me red milk
a few people said megamilk worked for them

Sour cream. I don't remember exactly how much, it's either 1 or 2 TBS a day.

Do you have a lot of milk, just watery? Do you have a really strong let down? If so, try block feeding- nurse just on one side for a few feedings in a row, and then the other side for the next few feedings. That way your baby will get more fatty hindmilk. Often people have too much watery foremilk, the baby gets filled on that, and doesnt get the richer fattier stuff. If you nurse a few times on each side that will ensure your baby getting the rich hindmilk.

I'll say very differently. Hold off on anything.

How often do you feed? What is your current nursing pattern? Do you pump at all?
There are ways to increase your fattier hindmilk through nursing.
One idea is to block feed...nurse the same side multiple times in a row.
If you nurse both sides at a feeding -- wait till he finishes one side and don't watch the clock. Put on the second side. When he's finished, put back on the first side to get the slower flowing hindmilk that is still in your breast.
If you nurse one side at a feeding -- nurse side A. If no interest in side B, next feeding start with side A. It probably won't be enough, but then you can put on side B for the rest of the feeding.
Nurse more frequently if possible. Keep baby in bed with you as well.
If you pump (no reason you should be, but if you do)...put in the fridge, and try to skim off the cream and give that to the baby as a boost.

I heard honey & oatmeal enriches/increases and lamb meat fattens. Hope that helped.

Also, giving a baby who seems uninterested or full another shot at eating while held in the football hold will often get them to continue for a few more minutes. Like others said above just don't switch sides so you give the hindmilk.

I've heard almonds help, like the ground almonds called "shkedia." I like almonds so I just eat them raw.
I could never feed a baby a few times on just one side - way too painful. Max would be 1 feeding on just one side, next feeding on just the other side.

Try fenugreek to increase your supply, if indeed that is the issue
Sounds like you may find a lactation consultant to be a worthwhile investment at this point, BEFORE you have major issues
