My son notices everything. Ok, not such a big deal. But lately its gotten extreme. If he is playing and sees a dot of dirt on the floor, he'll stand there saying "uch uch uch" until I clean it up.
He won't eat if he sees a bug in the room- whether its a fly or a fruit fly or an ant or a cocaroach (we have an infestation of the last, and its bug season for the rest). We were out and about in the city the other day, he was sitting in his stroller, and he wouldnt eat because "uch uch uch dabage!"- he saw a wrapper on the group 5 feet from him, and wouldn't proceed to do ANYTHING until I picked up someone else's litter and threw it out.

Its getting REALLY REALLY tough to deal with- his day almost seems to revolve around pointing out "uchs" and freaking out until I clean them up.

For example, right now, he wouldnt go within 3 feet of the peach pitt that I just finished and I had on the table next to me-"uch uch uch".

Help?!?!

As I said, he won't budge and he wont stop freaking out until the "uch" is removed. It really bothers him, apparently.

So he doesn't eat... he'll eat when he's hungry.

And it's getting worse because he sees he can get you to react to it.

I am having this problem with my 2.5 year old right now. He is such a neat freak, although outside garbage, he doesnt seem to mind. Our biggest issue is breakfast. It could take him 30 minutes to eat his cheerios and milk because any time some milk drips on the table, or side of bowl, or his lap we have to get a napkin and wipe it up or else there will be hysterics. And if he's coloring and gets some marker on his hand, more hysterics till we clean it. Its a sensory thing and so far we have not been able to figure out a solution that would make him not so sensitive to dirt.

I wouldn't let his fussiness (OP's son) fester. If he sees you picking up rubbish all the time cos he says uch uch, then it will just lead to more extreme fussy stuff.

also at this age you can try to distract them - over time they'll notice less if you don't dwell on the issues so much

To twizzlers - this is more normal as it affects him directly. I keep a box of tissues handy where my kids can reach and they can help themselves if they spill something.

good luck

Maybe next time he says on something uch, give him a tissue go to the place where he said uch, hold on to his and and together with his hand wipe away whatever it is.
DS used to be the same and by now he takes a tissue on his own and is busy cleaning the house all day long, and he is so proud of himself that he is mommy's helper !!!!!!!!!!!!

I try but it doesnt always work. Like when there are a bunch of gnats/flies on the window, he gets so grossed out, but isnt quick enough to kill them himself- he just scares them away and they come right back a second later... So it repeats again and again and again and again...
You think it might be a sensory thing?

my OT said it was a sensory thing, although my special ed therapist said something else which I'm not sure if I believe or not. She thinks I created the monster. She said she has never seen either of my kids with a dirty face, dirty hands, runny nose, etc. and she's here 3 times a week. She thinks my obsessive cleanliness (which I dont think is really obsessive, I just like them to be clean) is what brought it on. Confused

Hehe, its funny you say that... because I'm not a neat/extra clean person in any way. In fact, quite the opposite. So I dont think I passed it on to my son. In fact, I think this thing is even harder for me to deal with because mess doesnt really bother me at all, and he freaks out over drops of dirt.
