| |
My husband has to make our Shabbos dinner and lunch because I am laid up on the couch for health reasons. I can supervise from the couch, but not actually be in the kitchen at all.
I am sick and tired of baked chicken with this or that glaze. And he is opposed to just buying a Shabbos special someplace because he thinks it's too expensive and the food is never really that good (although frankly I'd take a recommendation if anyone has one for a cheap yet delicious Shabbos special somewhere in Brooklyn).
Can anyone please help me come up with some ideas that are relatively easy to make and don't involve a lot of ingredients or too much mess?? Otherwise I am deathly afraid of eating chicken legs with duck sauce and rice out of a box AGAIN.
Thanks in advance!!

Chulent is very easy: He just has to throw the ingredients in. Same with fish and soup. You just tell him to bring you the pot and spices, and he does the rest. How about meatballs (an easy kind) with just tomato sauce and spices?
Feel good!

meat or chicken stir-fry? just throw in veg and strips of protein, spice, some soy sauce, done.
as a starch, can do sesame noodles, or just a plain pasta salad, or pasta bake - mix cooked pasta with mayo, onion soup mix, some frozen greenbeans or broccoli, and bake till top crisps.
or can do mashed potatoes, or roast potatoes, also easy.

Whole chicken with stuffing (rice or bread stuffing), on top of the chicken you put paprika, garlic powder, and black pepper)
cut up some potatoes and put it in the pan next to the chicken.

I'll also recommend potatoes. Not easy to mess them up.
Boil them.
Then either mash them and add fried onions and salt for mashed potatoes.
Or, put them in the oven sprinkled with salt and paprika and cook till crispy.
Can he make chicken shnitzel? I know thats the husband's job in many homes. Its simple enough.
Have him peel and cut up vegetables for a vegetable soup. _________________ www.IsraelGlutenFree.com - Cheap gluten free flours and flour mixes

Wow! Thank you so much for all these excellent ideas.
Young Mommy - could you post a recipe for the pasta bake (do I use a whole box of pasta? we have elbow macaroni in the house and I think we have penne, which is better or does it not matter? How much mayo? etc) - it sounds good and we've never had it before so that's a huge plus for me!
Seraph - we will find out if he can make schnitzel, tonight is the maiden voyage for supper...!
Meatballs sound like a fantastic (dare I say a Fabulous) Shabbos dinner idea! Those are so easy to make and we both like them. We're kind of off cholent for awhile, we got sick of it during the winter.
Keep 'em coming and thank you all so much!

| I dont have a real recipe with amounts - I think I used to do 1/2 cup (lowfat) mayo, with 3 tbsp soup mix for a packet of pasta. I used to use fettucine or tagliatelle, but it would be absolutely fine with either penne or elbows...I guess see if you think it is creamy enough, but should be fine.

| Not cheap, but roast is very easy, or steaks or brisket. Add some baked potatoes and you have a great meal. Roast chicken is also very easy and he can add some veggies to the bottom of the pan.
