The red color is probably food coloring, that comes from a sweet and sour sauce. There's a kosher red sweet and sour sauce that you can buy at the store.

I happen to like my sesame chicken better than kosher delights!!!!
I use ketchup, brown sugar, garlic, and sometimes throw other stuff in too.
none of you ever made sweet and pungent chicken and had that red color? when I make it, it comes out shiny, red, and delicious.. same with the sesame chicken..
also, the sauces from the store are horrible. I never found one that actually tasted remotely close to good!!

Can anyone recognize the flavor of the red sauce? Cherry? Currant?
How do you bread the chicken nuggets so that they don't lose their crunch when sitting in sauce?

I think that the sauce that they use must be La Choy Sweet and Sour Sauce or maybe the La Choy Sweet and Sour Duck Sauce. The nuggets are fried before they are coated in warm sauce. There is a recipe for Lemon Chicken in Spice and Spirit that tells you how to do it. I think the process is similar to making Tempura vegetables.

Shifra | Is it Kosher? If yes, does anyone know what the ingredients are, does it have artificial coloring?

Their sesame chicken is so delicious that I must have it once a week for diner. My husband laughs at me how I'm able to eat the same thing again, and again.

I believe I recognize the flavor and color to be Hoisin sauce (a Chinese "plum" sauce).
KD obviously uses more than just Hoisin sauce, but once you buy it and play around with flavoring it, I am sure you can come up with a decent replica.

it's for sure food coloring added, that red isn't natural (I'm allergic to food coloring so I'm a bit of an expert)
I don't eat it so I can't tell you what IS in there.
